Flash

When Venser enters, choose one —

• Copy target instant or sorcery spell an opponent controls twice. You may choose new targets for the copies.

• Create two tokens that are copies of target permanent an opponent controls. They gain haste. At the beginning of the next end step, sacrifice them.

Cards That Fit Venser, Fervent Forger

Picked for what they do in Venser's deck. When two cards do the same job, the one with the lower comes first. All of them fit Venser's color identity.Mana ValueThe total amount of mana a card costs, all added up. A card costing two generic and one green has a mana value of three. Wizards renamed this from "converted mana cost" in 2021, so older cards and articles may still use the old name.Sol RingOpen the full glossary

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

Any choices made when the spell resolves won't have been made yet when it's copied. Any such choices will be made separately when the copies resolve.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied permanent will trigger when the tokens enter the battlefield. Any "as [this permanent] enters" or "[this permanent] enters with" abilities of the copied permanent will also work.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the copied permanent has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the copied permanent is a token, the tokens created by Venser's ability copy the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put that token onto the battlefield.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the copied permanent is copying something else (for example, if the copied permanent is a Clone), then the tokens enter the battlefield as whatever that permanent copied.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the copied spell divides damage or distributes counters among a number of targets, the division and number of targets can't be changed. If you choose new targets, you must choose the same number of targets.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the spell that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast, the copies have the same value of X.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

If the spell that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copies will have the same mode or modes. You can't choose different ones.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

The copies of the target spell are created on the stack, so they're not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won't trigger.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

The copies will have the same targets as the spell they're copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

The tokens copy exactly what was printed on the original permanent and nothing else (unless that permanent is copying something else or is a token; see below). They don't copy whether that permanent is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

The tokens see each other enter the battlefield. If any of them have a triggered ability that triggers whenever a creature enters, they'll trigger for one another.

Wizards of the Coast 21 Aug 2026

You can't choose to pay any additional costs for a copied spell. However, effects based on any additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy too.
