Ajani Steadfast
You may activate the first ability with no targets. If you do, you simply put a loyalty counter on Ajani to pay the cost of the ability.
If a permanent you control is both a creature and a planeswalker, Ajani’s second ability will put both a +1/+1 counter and a loyalty counter on it.
If multiple effects modify how damage is dealt, the player being dealt damage or the controller of the permanent being dealt damage chooses the order to apply the effects. For example, Dictate of the Twin Gods says, “If a source would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead.” Suppose you would be dealt 3 damage while Dictate of the Twin Gods is on the battlefield and you control Ajani’s emblem. You can either (a) prevent all but 1 damage first and then let Dictate of the Twin Gods’s effect double that, for a result of being dealt 2 damage, or (b) double the damage to 6 and then prevent all but 1 of that damage.
Each attacking creature is a separate source of damage. For example, if two 3/3 creatures attack you and are unblocked, the emblem will prevent 2 damage from each creature. You’ll be dealt a total of 2 damage.
The emblem’s ability doesn’t consider who controls the source dealing damage to you or a planeswalker you control.
Domri Rade
If a creature has both double strike and trample, the combat damage it assigned during the first combat damage step will be considered when determining how much damage can trample through in the second combat damage step. If each creature blocking it is destroyed during the first combat damage step, then all of the damage must be assigned to the player, planeswalker, or battle it's attacking during the second combat damage step.
When resolving Domri's first ability, if the card you look at isn't a creature card, or if it's a creature card you don't want to put into your hand, you simply put it back on top of your library. You don't reveal it or say why you're putting it back.
The second target of Domri's second ability can be another creature you control, but it can't be the same creature as the first target.
If either target of Domri's second ability is an illegal target when the ability tries to resolve, neither creature will deal or be dealt damage.
Tamiyo, Field Researcher
Tamiyo’s first ability sets up a delayed triggered ability that triggers even if Tamiyo has left the battlefield before those creatures deal combat damage.
If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
If you cast a spell “without paying its mana cost,” you can’t choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, those must be paid to cast the spell.
Tamiyo’s first ability can target creatures you don’t control. You’ll draw a card, not their controller, if they deal combat damage.
If Tamiyo’s first ability targets two creatures, and both deal combat damage at the same time, the delayed triggered ability triggers twice.
Vraska, Golgari Queen
If a permanent has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
Tokens that aren't a copy of something else don't have a mana cost. Anything without a mana cost normally has a mana value of 0.
You choose whether to sacrifice a permanent (and which one to sacrifice) while Vraska's first ability is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose which permanent to sacrifice and the time you do so.
