69 rulings for 22 cards
Bottomless Pit
The ability is controlled by the player who controls Bottomless Pit. This means that Bottomless Pit can trigger abilities which trigger off an opponent forcing you to discard.
Breach the Multiverse
The creatures you control will be Phyrexians until they leave the battlefield. Any of them that stops being a creature will also stop being a Phyrexian until it becomes a creature again, if applicable.
The cards you choose can be ones that were just milled or ones that were already in the graveyard.
Command Tower // Command Tower
If you have two commanders, the ability adds one mana of any color in their combined color identities.
If you don't have a commander, Command Tower's ability produces no mana.
If your commander is a card that has no colors in its color identity, Command Tower's ability produces no mana. It doesn't produce {C}.
Crackle with Power
If you choose 1 for the value of X, Crackle with Power will cost {3}{R}{R} to cast and deal five damage to a single target. If you choose 2 for the value of X, it will cost {6}{R}{R} to cast and deal ten damage to each of up to two targets, and so on.
Delina, Wild Mage
Delina, Wild Mage has received an update to its Oracle text. Specifically, rolling again on a result of 15–20 is optional.
Although the token is attacking, it was never declared as an attacking creature (for purposes of abilities that trigger whenever a creature attacks, for example).
You declare which player or planeswalker the token is attacking as you put it onto the battlefield. It doesn't have to be the same player or planeswalker Delina, Wild Mage is attacking.
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician
When you activate Derevi's last ability, you're not casting Derevi as a spell. The ability can't be countered by something that counters only spells. The ability isn't subject to the commander tax, nor does it increase the tax if you cast Derevi from the command zone later in the game.
You can activate Derevi's last ability only when it is in the command zone.
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is banned as a commander in Duel Commander format, but it may be part of your deck.
Emiel the Blessed
While resolving Emiel's triggered ability, you can't pay {G/W} more than once to put more counters on the creature.
If the entering creature is a Unicorn, you still have to pay {G/W} to put two +1/+1 counters on it.
Emiel's second ability triggers whenever any creature other than itself enters the battlefield under your control, including those returned by its first ability.
You choose whether to pay for Emiel's triggered ability while it's resolving. If you do, no player may take other actions between the time you pay and the time the creature has one or two +1/+1 counters on it.
If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won't return to the battlefield.
When the card returns to the battlefield, it will be a new object with no connection to the card that was exiled. Auras attached to the exiled creature will be put into their owners' graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled creature will cease to exist.
Ertai Resurrected
Activated abilities are written in the form “Cost: Effect.” Some keyword abilities, such as equip and crew, are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder texts.
If you counter a delayed triggered ability that triggers at the beginning of the “next” occurrence of a specified step or phase, that ability won’t trigger again the following time that phase or step occurs.
Triggered abilities use the word “when,” “whenever,” or “at.” They’re often written as “[Trigger condition], [effect].” Some keyword abilities, such as prowess and fabricate, are triggered abilities and will have “when,” “whenever,” or “at” in their reminder text.
Abilities that create replacement effects, such as a permanent entering the battlefield tapped or with counters on it, can’t be targeted. Abilities that apply “as [this creature] enters the battlefield” are also replacement effects and can’t be targeted. Similarly, the replacement effect that prevents a creature with a stun counter on it from untapping can’t be countered.
Fortune, Loyal Steed
The delayed triggered ability doesn't target any creature. You choose which other creature to exile, if any, as that ability is resolving. At that point, it's too late for any player to respond.
"Saddled" isn't an ability that a creature has. It's just something true about that creature. It won't stop being saddled until the turn ends or it leaves the battlefield.
"Saddle N" means "Tap any number of other untapped creatures you control with total power N or greater: This permanent becomes saddled until end of turn. Activate only as a sorcery."
Creatures with saddle can attack or block as normal even if they aren't saddled.
Fortune's middle ability creates a delayed triggered ability that triggers at end of combat. This ability will trigger whether or not Fortune is still on the battlefield. If it's not, you can still exile up to one creature that saddled it that turn.
If a permanent becomes a copy of a saddled Mount, the copy won't be saddled.
Tokens exiled by the delayed triggered ability won't return to the battlefield. It's usually not a good idea to saddle Fortune if Fortune itself is a token.
An ability that triggers when a creature "attacks while saddled" will trigger only if that creature was saddled when it was declared as an attacker.
You may activate a permanent's saddle ability even if that permanent is already saddled.
Kona, Rescue Beastie
If a creature with a survival ability isn't tapped when your second main phase begins, the ability won't trigger at all. You won't be able to tap it during your second main phase in time to have that ability trigger.
If a creature's survival ability triggers but the creature leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves, use its tapped or untapped status as it last existed on the battlefield to determine whether or not the ability will do anything.
If a creature's survival ability triggers but that creature is untapped when the ability begins to resolve, that ability won't do anything.
Survival abilities (and other abilities that trigger at the beginning of your second main phase) will trigger at the beginning of the second main phase you take in a turn. They won't trigger during your third, fourth, or other additional main phases in a single turn, if effects somehow cause you to have more than two main phases.
Konda's Banner
A creature can’t get more than +2/+2 from Konda’s Banner. Sharing more than one color or more than one creature type with the equipped creature does nothing.
The equipped creature shares a color with itself, as long as it has one or more colors.
The equipped creature shares a creature type with itself, as long as it has one or more creature types. “Artifact” is not a creature type.
Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar
If a creature has a characteristic-defining ability that sets its power and toughness, indicated with a */* or similar in the power and toughness box, that ability is taken into account when determining its base power and toughness.
Normally, a creature's base power and toughness are the power and toughness printed on the card or, for a token, the power and toughness set by the effect that created it. If another effect sets a creature's power and toughness to specific numbers or values, those become its base power and toughness. If an effect modifies a creature's power and/or toughness without setting them, that is not included when determining its base power and toughness.
Some creatures have base power and toughness 0/0 and an ability that gives them a bonus based on some criteria. Those are not characteristic-defining abilities, and that ability doesn't change its base power and toughness. Such a creature will have power greater than its base power if the ability is raising its power above 0.
Sakashima the Impostor
If there is no creature on the battlefield or if you don't choose a creature as Sakashima enters, Sakashima remains a 3/1 Human Rogue.
Sakashima doesn't get the return to hand ability unless a creature is copied as Sakashima enters. Sakashima can't copy itself because the choice is made as part of the event that puts it onto the battlefield, and whatever will be copied must already be on the battlefield.
Sakashima must be on the battlefield at the end of turn in order to return to hand. If Sakashima leaves the battlefield after the ability is activated but before the at-end-of-turn ability resolves, the ability does nothing.
Silence
Silence won't affect spells that your opponents cast before you cast Silence, including any spells that are still on the stack. Silence also won't stop your opponents from casting spells after you cast Silence but before Silence resolves.
A player who can't cast a spell can't suspend a card.
The only thing Silence stops is casting spells. Your opponents can still activate abilities, including abilities of cards in their hands (like cycling). Their triggered abilities work as normal, they can still play lands, and so on.
Sisay, Weatherlight Captain
If a card in a library has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
If Sisay leaves the battlefield after you've activated its last ability but before that ability resolves, use its last known existence on the battlefield to determine what cards you can find.
Swan Song
Swan Song can target a spell that can't be countered. That spell won't be countered when Swan Song resolves, but its controller will get a Bird token.
Sword of War and Peace
You count the cards in the each player's hand when the triggered ability resolves.
Tetsuo, Imperial Champion
If Tetsuo isn't equipped when it's declared as an attacking creature, the ability won't trigger. If Tetsuo isn't equipped when the ability resolves, the ability won't do anything.
The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride
Putting one or more land cards onto the battlefield with The Gitrog's triggered ability doesn't count as playing a land. It can put land cards onto the battlefield even if you've already played your land for the turn.
Use the power of the sacrificed creature as it last existed on the battlefield to determine the value of X.
If a permanent becomes a copy of a saddled Mount, the copy won't be saddled.
An ability that triggers when a creature "attacks while saddled" will trigger only if that creature was saddled when it was declared as an attacker.
You may activate a permanent's saddle ability even if that permanent is already saddled.
Throne of the God-Pharaoh
In a Two-Headed Giant game, the triggered ability of Throne of the God-Pharaoh causes the opposing team to lose life equal to twice the number of tapped creatures you control. Tapped creatures your teammate controls aren’t counted.
Throne of the God-Pharaoh’s ability triggers at the beginning of each of your end steps, even if you control no tapped creatures. The number of tapped creatures you control is checked as the ability resolves.
If other abilities trigger at the beginning of your end step, first those controlled by your opponents resolve, then yours resolve. Each player orders their triggers in any order.
Tinybones, the Pickpocket
You choose whether to cast the target nonland permanent card as Tinybones's triggered ability resolves. If you do, you do so as part of the resolution of that ability. You can't wait to cast it later in the turn. Timing restrictions based on the card's types are ignored.
Winota, Joiner of Forces
You choose which player or planeswalker the Human is attacking. It doesn’t have to be attacking the same player or planeswalker that the non-Human creature is attacking.
If more than one non-Human creature you control attacks, Winota’s ability triggers separately for each of them. For example, if three non-Human creatures attack, you won’t look at the top eighteen cards of your library at once; you’ll look at six, finish resolving the ability, and then repeat the process twice more as the other instances of the ability resolve.
Any effects that say that the Human can’t attack (such as that of Propaganda, or if you get a Human with defender) affect only the declaration of attackers. They won’t stop the Human you find from entering the battlefield attacking.
Although the Human is an attacking creature, it was never declared as an attacking creature. This means that abilities that trigger whenever a creature attacks won’t trigger when it enters the battlefield attacking.
